Description

Brothers Robert and Donald Bender pose in formal suits in front of their home. Near the bottom of the photograph, the words "Bob + Don" are written in cursive.

Robert and Donald are the two sons of Leonard O. and Nadine (Kronmiller) Bender. Their older sister, Doris (b. 1914), was Leonard's child from an earlier marriage, and was raised by her paternal grandparents.

Leonard and Nadine married in June of 1920 and moved to Coralville in 1925. Their home was one of the first in Coralville Heights. Leonard was an engineer at the State Sanitarium at Oakdale for 45 years, and was personally honored by Governor Erbe for his work. Nadine was a charter member of the Coralville Heights Club.

Donald, born in May of 1921, married Maxine Miller and worked in the Communications Department of the United States Air Force until his retirement in 1970. Donald and Maxine had one daughter, Linda.

Robert was born in 1923. He married Anita Droll and together they had two sons, Stephen and Tom. Robert worked at Darling-Bender Realtors, Inc (Lovetinsky et al., p. 90).
