Ira McAllister family, 1950s-1960s

Ira McAllister was born on August 2, 1880 to Charles and Mary (Acord) McAllister in Flagler, Iowa. On March 17, 1907, he married Susan Wentz, the daughter of John H. and Minnie Wentz. They had six children: Leonard, Elwood, Mildred, Richard, Juanita, and Wanda.

Ira worked at the Iowa-Illinois Gas Company before becoming employed at the University of Iowa power plant. He retired in 1951 at the age of 70.

Susan died February 5, 1972. Ira died three years later in February of 1975. He was 95 years old (Lovetinsky et al., p. 113; Iowa City Press Citizen, 1972).
