Description
An account of the resource
Capturing Local History is a collection images and documents that reflect Coralville through time. The collection draws upon items generated by the City of Coralville, as well as contributions from the public. The aim is to create an archive that reflects not only the physical and institutional changes our city has seen over the years, but capture the people and events that have shaped Coralville. The collection is ongoing with the hope it will grow to embody the diverse stories of our community to share with the future.

Share your story here.

Description
An account of the resource
The Johnson County Auditor mailed absentee ballot request forms to all registered voters ahead of the June 2, 2020 primary election in order to encourage voters to stay at home and vote absentee. Voter turnout was 32%, part of a statewide record voter turnout for a June primary (https://www.iowapublicradio.org/post/june-2nd-primary-sees-historic-voter-turnout#stream/0). In this photo, Laura Crossett holds up her completed ballot ready to put in the mail.
Laura notes, "I had wanted to work as a poll watcher for the primary, as I’m relatively young and healthy and at low risk for COVID-19 but was unable to due to childcare. I have taken my son with me to the polls for every primary and general election since he was born, but filling out my ballot at home and getting to talk about why I was voting for the people I was voting for was a new experience and perhaps even more educational than walking the half block to our polling place. And we still got a sticker."
