Ermal Loughry was awarded the community service award for his thirty plus years of actively participating in the community and for his role in founding the Coralville Commercial Club, now the Chamber of Commerce. Don Gregory, the Assistant Fire Chief, accepted the special president's award on the behalf of Fire Chief Russell Slade. Neil Trott, who represented the Heritage Systems, accepted the community beautification award for the firm's work on Hawkeye Lodge (Coralville Courier, 1982).

The photograph was taken by Karin Becker for the book The Strip: An American Place, by Richard Horwitz.
