In 2009, Coralville, Iowa City, and North Liberty became one of the six finalists selected to join Iowa's Great Places program. The program, which was put on by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and in its fifth year in 2009, encouraged "communities to work together to achieve a better quality of life" (DCA Press Release, 2009). The Coralville, Iowa City, and North Liberty area was recognized for their commitment to literature.
