Warren Buffet, Mayor Fausett, & Governor Branstad at the opening of GEICO, 1997
Dublin Core
Subject
Description
The ribbon cutting ceremony of the new GEICO (Government Employee Insurance Company) was attended by Warren Buffet (second to the left), Mayor Jim Fausett, and Governor Terry Branstad (second to the right) (Walch, p. 37). All three men hold onto GEICO labelled gifts.
A message from Warren Buffet to Mayor Fausett is written across the top frame and reads: "Jim - Thanks for bringing Geico to Coralville. You have my vote for the next election. -Warren Buffet."
This opening marked the first GEICO facility in the state of Iowa. Coralville had been in contention with three other cities, but was chosen overall because of the city's new mall and other areas of growth. The facility expected to provide about 200 new jobs to the community within its first year (Iowa City Press-Citizen, 1997).
