Subject
Description
A photograph of Harold D. Paschal, the Grand Master of the masonic Clarksville Lodge 668 of Coralville, and Mayor Michael Kattchee stand next to the public library cornerstone. The symbolic laying of the cornerstone ceremony was attended by about 75 people; the actual cornerstone was later placed into the wall of the building with a time capsule behind it.
The following quote was printed in the Coralville Courier: "According to Kattchee the library is not being built just because it would be 'nice' or because some people want it. Calling libraries the 'backbone of our democratic society,' Kattchee said the 'main and foremost reason is that the citizens of Coralville need a library'" (Coralville Courier, 1986).
