Description

A black funeral card with white lettering and line art. The art covers the page, along with a verse, and is of blooming flowers and vines, a hay bundle with a scythe, and an open book with the words "Holy Bible in loving remembrance of" written on the pages.

The card memorializes the death of Joseph Kimbal Hemphill, who died on January 23, 1904.

The verse reads:
"'Tis hard to break the tender cord
When love has bound the heart.
'Tis hard, so hard, to speak the words,
Must we forever part?

Dearest loved one, we have laid thee
In the peaceful grave's embrace,
But thy memory will be cherished
'Till we see thy heavenly face."
