Description
A family portrait of Mary "Polly" (Dowman) Paintin and her four daughters. Also pictured is Harriet (Paintin) Koser; she was a sister to Mary's husband James Sr. and therefore Mary's sister-in-law. Harriet was married to Edward Koser (Lovetinsky et al., p. 110).

Nelle Ellen "Nellie" was born on September 30, 1882 to James Sr. and Mary (Dowman) Paintin. In 1902, she married Arch Hemphill and the couple had two children: Robert K. and Mary Elizabeth. Nellie worked as a salesperson at Yetter's Department Store in Iowa City. She died in 1968 (Lovetinsky et al. p. 120).
Lillian was born on September 21, 1884 to James Sr. and Mary (Dowman) Paintin. She married Glenn Robinson and the couple had one son: Murry. Lillian worked at the Strub's department store in Iowa City. She died on October 10, 1963 (Lovetinsky et al., p. 120).
Ada was born to Jame Sr. and Mary (Dowman) Paintin and married Mylo Art. After farming in North Liberty, Iowa, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota (Lovetinsky et al., p. 120).
Clara Kate was born on August 3, 1899 to James Sr. and Mary (Dowman) Paintin. She married Frank E. Bowman, the son of James C. and Laura (Hassler) Bowman in 1909. The couple had six children: Donald (b. 1909), Ada (b. 1911), Roberta, Doris (b. 1919), Dean (b. 1923), and John (b. 1928) (Lovetinsky et al., p. 120-121).
James Sr. and Mary was also had five sons: John [b. 1879], James [b. 1877], Robert, Fred E. [b. 1893], and Paul Perry [b. 1898] (Lovetinksy et al., p. 119-120).
