Ethel (Douglass) and Gordon Dinsmore at an American Legion event. Ethel wears a dress, corsage, and large beaded necklace, while Gordon wears a plaid shirt, striped jacket with a pin, and his American Legion Post #721 hat.
Gordon was a charter member of the Iowa City American Legion Post #17, and in this capacity, helped organize the American Legion Walter Johnson Post #721 in Coralville in 1953. Ethel was a charter member of the American Legion Post on May 30, 1955, and volunteered hours at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City. Both received life memberships with their organizations (Thompson, p. 71; Dinsmore, p. 73; Lovetinsky et al., p. 99).
Gordon died in January of 1976 (Iowa City Press-Citizen, 1976); Ethel died October 14, 1984 (Ancestry Library).
