Description

A young Raymond Cole sits in a open four-wheeled carriage while holding the reins of two horses. A thin carriage whip can be seen standing up at his feet. The carriage sits in a open field with a line of trees in the back.

Raymond Roy Cole was born on August 11, 1897 to Joseph and Anna (Novak) Cole and was the youngest of four sons. He married Harriet Huffman, born on October 14, 1906 to Manson and Maguerite (Smith) Huffman of Iowa City, on November 22, 1921. Together they had three children: Raymond, Jr., Dean, and Harriet (Ancestry Library; Iowa City Press-Citizen, 1979; Lovetinsky et al., p. 96).

When Raymond's parents retired from the farm in the mid-1920s, he took over the operation. Much of the farm land now was used for housing developments and the construction of Interstate 80 (Lovetinsky et al., p. 96).

Raymond died on April 16, 1976. Harriet died three years later in July of 1979 (Iowa City Press-Citizen, 1976; Iowa City Press-Citizen, 1979).
